Description

:icone-vergree-n:

[85PP]

:new: +100PP

name:
Sketch

age:  31

gender: male

height: 5’6

Job:  Carer - drawn to the scientific... this wa s the best option.
Hunter - after returning to camp he found himself at peace with his destructive nature. He asked to switch jobs mostly to feel important
Head Researcher: When the summer sickness began to plague Evergreen, Sketch with his extensive research experience was asked to become Head Researcher, a new Position that serves him fairly well in his new social role. It's obvious he loves his job, as even when sick he would keep working...

personality:  (+Collected +Pragmatic +Considerate = Wary, = Dismissive, -Aloof, -Irreverent)

  • Sketch’s saving grace - and his tragic flaw - is his refusal to show others that he is capable of feeling any emotion whatsoever. Emotion is for the weak, for the gentle, not appropriate for a man of… what was it he was a man of again? Not that in matters, because he wouldn’t let it shape his personality much. Sure there is something of significant bubbling under his stoic surface, but his desire to be hidden, to be a silent renegade, keeps him from admitting much. His attitude towards others is largely distant and irreverent. If he is of use to you, he'll stick around, but otherwise, it is a rare sight to see him bother with candor or smalltalk. Sketch's tendency to hide his emotions are coupled with his tendency to pretend they're imaginary. He's a chill guy - nothing bothers him. Nothing, until they do, in which case, they really REALLY bother him. He's unlikely to hurt anyone near him when he breaks, but he's likely to take his rage out in a somewhat unproductive fashion. These bursts of emotion don't last long. Fifteen minutes and he will go back to coolly denying he did such a thing.

  • Sketch returned from the exodus... changed. No longer was he closed in and quiet. His silent resent for his camp-mates is finally evident in a cunning smile and dismissive air. He finds people tedious and foolish, caring not for most of the petty trials of those around him. Survival is the only thing that matters now, after all. However, under this laid back, sarcastic tone and focus on survival, lies something broken. Sketch remembers more about himself, and because he does, he has learned not to hate himself as much. He is learning to forgive himself for the mistakes he made. However, all that hatred must go somewhere, and it manifests in selfishness. Unless you've expressed any interest in him directly, Sketch does not have your back. And he doesn't expect you to have his either.

  •  Sketch remembers a lot now. His real name, why he knows so much about science, why he hated himself for so long and why he deserved to hate himself. He rejects his memories and the life they represent, the life of a selfish man raised by two paranoid narcissists, the man who ruined his own life. And it makes him feel... guilty. If anything has changed about Sketch, it is that he experiences shame. Every action of his is driven by this shame. He wants to be better than the guy he remembers being. It's hard though, because sometimes people are really stupid...

  • :new: Sketch has lost someone important to him, and it has closed himself off from the world for a good amount of time. Most of his employees in the lab rarely see him, and he only speaks to a few people regularly. He has found some comfort in his own hatred of Iron Town. It started out as conceit - the place is not exactly a conference for Nobel laureates, but he is finding more out than he wanted to know about the place.
    How incredibly irritating.

first dream:

A blank ground. A blank canvas. Nothing separating the floor from the horizon, no color anywhere to be seen - or was it every color that could be seen? For it was white, and white was the absence of color to a painter, but the presence of color to a scientist. He couldn’t remember which one he was. He was shirtless and emaciated. The only weapon he had on him was block of charcoal. He moves forward,  only to run into a wall - invisible in the sea of white around him. He turns, walks a bit, and runs into another wall. But the charcoal brushes against it, leaving a dark black mark.

An idea forms in his mind. He begins to drag the charcoal along the walls, the lines adding some movement to the invisible white maze.

Slowly as he moves, the sketches begin to occupy a 3-dimensional character - and thus he traces his tracks, and finds his way to the exit. The exit leads to a field of stars. Gravity swaps. His head stands next to the exit.

There is nothing here for him, and yet there are no walls. Only the sensation of waking up keeps him from fully appreciating his new freedom.

history:

Ken Tanandar was born to in Jakarta, Indonesia to a pair of doomsday preppers. They were intent on believing that humanity was evil and would collapse on itself, and would, therefore, teach the young boy all about the intricacies of combat and survival. Ken was not a very socially apt boy, however, and his telling these apocalypse stories made him much of a joke - Thus started a pattern of shame he would carry with him into adulthood. However things got out of hand quickly. Ken was only 15 when a boy teased him for his doomsday-like attitude about the world. It would have been a small encounter, had the boy not also brought up what Ken thought was a secret - Ken had a crush on him, and he knew.

He didn't throw the first punch, but he ended the fight quickly. His opponent was barely breathing when Ken was through.

Ken's life in Jakarta ended quickly. The word got out that the boy was sent to a hospital. That kind of rumor would cast ill judgment on the Tanadar's parenting, and it wouldn't do Ken any favors either. So a year later, they packed up and left for Cardiff, Wales. The new life that Ken had there wasn't much better for him - he knew that his parents moved because he was a disgrace. A disappointment. He tried to make friends in his new home, but his paranoia about the end of the world seemed to color his attitude towards people. He didn't think anyone had his back, so he decided to focus his life on science. Science was good, helpful. it would save him one day, save him from the decay of society that his colleagues were too stupid to realize could happen. Ken eventually went to a good college for undergrad in Swansea and moved on to medical school, his parents hoping that this training and some work in an excellent organic chemistry lab would teach him to be a calmer person.

But Ken's paranoia got in the way again - after a series of fights with his coworkers the altercation nearly got physical, and while Claire was never hurt, a few of the lab materials were badly damaged by the time Ken's boss could run into the room and fire him on the spot. He was swiftly expelled for battery. The man was left without anything at all... and he still felt like this time he couldn't entirely find it in him to blame himself...

His only glint of hope was in something they called the Deep Sleep project... it was vaguely described, but his parents were right. HE was right. Ken was validated.
---

It was cold. Despite the thick jacket, it was cold. What was going on with his jacket, anyway? All the patches and symbols, what did these mean? Whose name was on his pin? Not his, surely he could remember.... no, not that either.
But the chamber was not difficult to exit. And so he walked, one foot after another, in terror and helplessness, until in the horizon some semblance of civilization began to take shape.

:new: The exodus to the new town is welcome. For who had Sketch's back here? His trip to the mountain camp felt like it was all alone, and it might as well have been. The memories came back. He remembered what he learned about survival, but not about his family, or where he came from, or how he ruined his own life.

All he needed to know was that he was smarter now, smarter than he felt anyone deserved.
Excellence, of course, is the best revenge.

extra:

  • hair is poofy and uneven because he cut it himself
  • Really likes seafood! Will grudgingly hang out with you if you give him seafood.
  • Ken Tanandar is Sunni Muslim and used to be practicing, but stopped praying after the fight that influenced his family to move to Wales. He has recovered a memory of being religious but isn't entirely sure how or whom to.
  • Sketch remembers that he used to go to medical school. He doesn't know why he stopped...
