Description

AMOEBA HAS ARRIVED

:iconpokemontownship:

Basics

Name: Amanda “Amoeba” Dreiton

Age: 19

Birthday: January 26
Gender: Female
Height: 5'8”

Bag:

10,050pd
bottles of dried flower petals
some stickers with bad science puns on them
a textbook on Genetic Diseases

Occupation: Aromatherapist

Personality
(+Compassionate, +Hardworking, =Emotional, =Adaptive, -Melancholy, -Self-doubting)

Amoeba is a quiet person by nature, and often gives off the air that she would rather not being around people when she is the center of attention. Slow and deliberate, everything Amoeba does is driven by her desire to make herself seem as unassuming as possible. More than anything, it seems like Amoeba wants to be invisible.

Of course, all this changes if you give Amoeba even a little reason to believe you like her, or are even interested in talking to her. In which case... good luck trying to get rid of her. Amoeba loves company, and will relish the company of her friends, or her family, or even strangers if they are willing to put up with her. Of course, it does take some patience to do such a thing - Amoeba is very attached to her friends and likes physical affection to a degree that might be a bit much to others. She will very liberally hug and hold hands with her friends to compensate for her inability to share her sentiments verbally. With her quickness to give others her love and trust also comes a quickness to upset, and Amoeba has long had a reputation as being something of a crybaby. She is easily moved by injustice, frustration, and the pain of others. However, she is capable of much deliberate action while she cries, suggesting to strangers that her tears are often shed for want of being helpful. Few things give Amoeba more satisfaction than seeing her friends and neighbors safe and happy.

History

---

July 10 2015

--Patient seems to be recovering well. Language processing and delivery abilities have been seriously impaired, but sensorimotor abilities seem to be intact. Patient upon awakening demanded that her parents join her, and cried when we told her that they weren’t permitted to see her yet. Patient attempts to communicate with the neurosurgeons, and appears to understand most of what they say to her.

--

July 12 2015

--Patient’s parents have come to visit. Patrick and Jae Li Dreiton were insistent that we find a way to recover her speech. Unfortunately, there may be no immediate, permanent solutions. Perhaps over time her speech will return, slowly. But we’re not sure.

--

July 14 2015

--Patient’s name is Amanda Dreiton, but she prefers the moniker “Amoeba” that was given to her during her formative years because of her studiousness and love of biology. Patrick and Jae Li  Inform me that Amoeba was a nickname given to her by some students whom she did not associate with, but that it wasn’t out of malice that they did. Apparently she was so shy and worried about what people think that few students even knew her name. Patrick and Jae Li say that she’s been like this since she was a little girl. Her behavior towards me and the neurologists suggests that no behavioral changes have occurred from her brain damage.

---

July 17 2015

--Patient has requested I call her Amoeba.

  She seems to have recovered some ability to write. However when given a piece of paper, she began to draw on it. Amoeba is quite the artist. She refused to let any of the other neurologists see her work, and asked for her parents to see it before she let me.

  As it turns out, Amoeba was a gifted student. Jae Li records an IQ of 120, and tells me with fondness that Amoeba’s favorite subject was systems biology, and that her favorite extracurricular was debate team. She was an extemporaneous speaker, and won several awards in debate competitions throughout high school. Apparently she liked talking when she had something to talk about. According to her parents, Amoeba hardly ever spoke in public otherwise. But she liked the company of her debate partner and the rest of her team, and was a convincing speaker. Amoeba was hoping to become a biology professor.

---

July 18 2015

-- Amoeba is recovering memory of the crash, but it takes her a very long time to describe it in words. She can better explain it in writing, however. This was the summer after her high school graduation and she was in her car alone. Most of her friends were in a second car, and were apparently driving inebriated. They were heading to the same location when a third car failed to indicate it was changing lanes - Amoeba’s friend abruptly hit the brakes, and Amoeba crashed right into her. The impact and glass injuries to her head rendered her unconscious. Her friends called emergency services and she was sent here to neurology, as the only one of the five to sustain major head injuries.

  Amoeba cried when she finished writing what she remembered down.

--

July 26 2015

--Amoeba Dreiton no long requires medical support, and is ready to go home. Patrick and Jae Li have paid off all her medical expenses, and are currently in counseling. They worry that Amoeba would get bored of staying with them in Solaceon, and they want to know what jobs are still available to her. The neurology department is unsure whether or not Amoeba’s speech will return to normal or functional levels. It is unlikely that she will ever match her previous fluency, but some careers are available to her. She may not become a professor until her speech at least comes together somewhat. For the time being, the only careers recommended to her involve animal care and graphic design, and that staying at home is ideal.

--

July 27 2015

--Amoeba was discharged from neurology this afternoon. She is able to walk, interact with her environment, and use objects with precision. Her ability to learn is intact. Her ability to retrieve and create new memories is also intact. To a stranger, Amoeba would seem fully neurotypical.

She told me in scraps of writing that she does not want to stay at home. She wants to move somewhere else and continue living her life as she was going to. Most of her college friends are out of reach now, so she has nowhere to stay. I believe that Amoeba is intelligent enough to manage on her own, even if she lacks the ability to communicate effectively. I have contacted partners in many towns that are large, but unintimidating. I have found none that match Solaceon in social environment, but the partners I have found are willing to take Amoeba in as a semi-permanent resident until she is able to find proper lodging for herself in her new town.

  I wish her the best.

Pokemon:</h3>

--ACTIVE--

Methionine “Theo”|| Oddish || M || Lv.23

Methionine is the beginning. The beginning of mRNA translation, the beginning of a new protein. As soon as a codon for methionine is recognized, something new is created. Such as Methionine is the beginning in biology, so is Theo the beginning of a new chapter in Amoeba’s life. For all Amoeba lacks in confidence, she makes up for it with Theo. Theo takes pride in his position as Amoeba's first Pokemon, and is very affectionate. Unfortunately, contary to what his name might suggest, Theo is not very bright. He is, however, a fairly good judge of character

Cysteine "Cyssie" || Roggenrola || F || Lv.8

Quiet, unimposing, and often lost in a web of thoughts. Cysteine lives a live of quiet contemplation and perfect detachment from her surroundings - her only goals are to aid others with her seemingly transcendent wisdom, even if that means allowing Amoeba to hug her for no reason. Few things give Cyssie joy, and few things give her sorrow. The only mood Cyssie seems to ever experiences is 'contentment.' This is not to say she doesn't love her new family... She just realizes that her love isn't important in the context of things - they're all going to die eventually.

Gaba || Snubbull || M || Lv.1

Gaba, named for GABA, a major inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain. Gaba fits such a name, because he is always very slow and sluggish. An incredibly physically burdened puppy. Gaba's weak muscles mean he cannot play along with other puppies, and is often picked on by his friends who don't seem to realize that he can't participate the same way they do. Gaba is very affectionate, and he is fond of showing said affection by cuddling with/drooling on the things and people he loves. Gaba's favorite things are belly rubs and eating food he isn't supposed to eat. His least favorite thing is visiting the vet after he eats something he wasn't supposed to eat.

Serotonin "Sera" || Heracross* || M || Lv.15

An archetypal grump, and an unwilling victim of a horribly ironic naming decision. Sera's abrasive nature often overshadows his protective instinct, mostly because he has the ability to be a huge jerk to his teammates immediately before or after attempting to save them from a threat - an endeavor that is met with variable success. Sera's attitude towards his team may be likened to an adult trying to avoid the affections of his overbearing family - he is obligated to love them... But good LORD are they annoying!

Malleus "Malley" || Cubone || F || Lv.18

The malleus is one of the bones in the middle ear - the one that strikes the eardrum, beginning the transformation of sound waves into a message that the brain can understand. Melancholy and transparent, Malley provides a similar conduit for Amoeba, who finds the cubone's presence so comforting that she even attempts to talk to the Pokemon, struggling over words deliberately. Malley reflects the emotions of those around her - sadness and joy alike, her behavior is very much influenced by those around her. She is met with some jealousy from Theo, who isn't sure how he feels about how much Amoeba talks to her, but the oddish is much too good-natured to let that affect his behavior.
